Decided to go there for dinner since the reviews seem to be good, but left really disappointed. The food was good, but not worth... a trip down here, maybe if you were in the area. Portions were small, especially for the price they were charging. The reasonfor the one star rating, we were told we couldn't order anything from the main dinner menu on Tues and Thurs because the chefwas off on those days. SERIOUSLY!?!? We were basically limited to the appetizers. They could at least put a notice on the dooror something. We weren't given that info until we tried to order the food. The people at the table next to us got up and leftwhen they heard that. To be honest, we should have done the same Read more

Authentic spot that offer spacious seating. Plum juice wasn't as good as other place I've been to but the taste of the good is... great with reasonable pricing. Usually pan fried buns are oily at the bottom but the ones they offer here are not oily at allbut still crispy. Read more

Overall this place is very authentic. The tastes reminded me of home in shanghai and how my grandpa would fetch dumplings from... the downstairs street stall for breakfast. We ordered the classic dishes but I was surprised at the cost of those dishes. It?svery expensive for just some dumplings and noodles plus I did feel very thirsty afterwards likely from the msg. Understaffed and overpriced for the amount of food. The pan fried bun was decent but not worth a trip just for that item. The... egg soup just tastes like msg and water Read more

Nice Shanghainese dim sum for lunch, kind of different from Hong Kong style dim sum. We had their specialty of pan fried... dumplings, excellent dish, though very pricey, about $2.15 each. We also had a wonton soup and some veggies, all goodquality. With about 10 tables occupied, there was only one server looking after everyone, kind of slow. We also had to wait forabout 30 minutes for the pan fried dumplings to be served (I believe they are freshly made). Anyway we like the foods. Read more

Really delicious dumplings! I've been searching for good pan fried soup dumplings for a while and these are really well made.... Not too doughy or thick. Will be back to try something else! Read more

Famous global restaurant known for pan fried shanghai soup dumplings. They have 3 locations, 2 in Asia and only 1 in... Canada!! We had to try their shrimp and pork dumplings. we enjoyed their traditional methods of preparing and cooking. Meatand filling is carefully wrapped in a bun dough that's steamed and then pan fried in a giant hot wok/pan. One side toasted whilethe other remains soft. The bun later is thin. The soup and filling VERY sweet. Scallion noodles were good, but simple. Sothey were overpriced IMO. Served with egg soup with has a good clear ginger and pork/bone flavour. Decor is very nice. Theyhave models of their menu items on display which is very cute. Menu is small. Slightly overpriced, ESPECIALLY when you knowRichmond is just a few minutes drive away... Read more

Came at around 3pm on a weekend. The restaurant was empty and was greeted by servers wearing masks. We ordered the Sheng Jian... Bao with shrimp, Shanghai summer noodles, green onion noodles, glutinous rice balls filled with Shanghai vegetable and pork anddeep fried pork cutlet. They are famous for their sheng Jian Bao and for good reason. There isn't much soup inside but of whatwas inside it was very sweet which went well with the vinegar on the table. The outside skin of the bun/dumpling was crispy andunlike any other shengjianbao I've had before. It's less dumpling like and more like a deep fried mantou / bun. The meat insidewas very sweet and soft. The whole shrimp inside was crisp and went well with the tenderness of the pork. The green onionnoodles was a disappointment. The green onions were very chewy and hard to eat. The noodles were a bit over cooked but I likedthe savouriness the dish had. I wish there was more green onion flavour as this is a green onion noodle dish. The Shanghaisummer noodles, to me, was better than the green onion noodles. This dish was much smaller than the green onion noodles but thesesame flavoured sauce on top was nicely seasoned. If you aren't used to cold noodles this might not be the dish for you but ifyou do like it you might want to order this. The pork cutlet was another disappointment. It was crispy but very thin and dry.Would not order again. The savoury glutinous rice balls was surprisingly not bad. The Shanghai vegetable and pork filling savedthis dish. The service was good - asked us for tea refill, dishes came quickly and everything was pretty organized. The food isa hit or miss. I would say the prices are on the steeper side and portions on the smaller side but for the location and thesetting it's understandable. Overall would only recommend you try the pan fried dumplings. It's unique and worth a try. Read more
