1 star for customer service and that's it. Bacon was so overcooked I thought I was eating a tire. I was fiddling around on a road trip with a buddy, Mike. He's often pretty particular about his food and we had driven in from... Montrealand I remembered seeing a bunch of quaint looking places in vankleek Hill on the way to driving over to the brewery upfrom Hawkesbury Ontario and we hit a corner street figuratively speaking of course :-) LOL that had a woman putting out a signsaying book saleand my buddy Mike is a big big book reader. So we followed the sign and the lady and parked in the back of thechurch went in bought a few CDs for me and he didn't buy any books much to my surprise! But I was happy and then across thestreet or just down a bit was this joint named Niko'sand among three different recommendations by the church ladies and one ofthe church ladies sons who just walked in and finished eating there, we were told that was a pretty good place and so we pickthat.. inside it's far less pretentious then they're lovely signage outside.... But what it did have is really decent food,especially breakfast menu, served quickly efficiently and with great charm from the waitress and we found out that was the ownerand his wife further down at a few. we ended up speaking to them about running a restaurant of this type and all the workinvolved when it's a family business. My buddy Mike grew up in a family business that also have to do with books, surprisesurprise LOL. I really found the food to be decent and tasty and have that homemade feel to it. Did I remember saying they gotfarm fresh eggs or something like that?!? whatever it was it was perfect for the moment and if I'm in vankleek Hill again andneed to have a decent bite, then my food enjoyment radar will drive me right there. In the heart of vankleek Hill lives this family restaurant and bar that has hardworking folks providing tasty and well priced... food. out of all the places reviewed for restaurants in vankleek Hill in the top 10, this is one of the top three but has thebest price of them all and it's highly casual. The breakfast I had was good, very basic but that's what was expected. They have an option for rye bread. The reason for my 2... star review is that upon paying for all of our meals mine was slightly more expensive then others who had the same. Apparentlythey charge for jam/peanut butter. This was not mentioned when it was brought over. was not for me, but ended up on my billwithout a word being said. Also the jams that we did use were dried out and seemed like they had been heated and cooled manytimes before we got them. The honey was hard. Read more
