I went to Blue Star on the recommendation of a friend and was encouraged by the fact that they offer old-fashioned cake donuts -... my favorite. An added bonus is their stellar branding and cool Abbot Kinney location. I am only subtracting a star because Iwas expecting to be blown away, which I was not. The donuts were Vegan, which was cool, and I loved the texture but there is wassomething about the taste that just wasn't quite there. I have had really good Vegan donuts before and these were not them. Idid get a Lemon Poppyseed donut that was really good (I paired it with ice cream for a pretty unique flavor). These donuts alsolasted for a while. I kept them unsealed in a box for a few days and the taste remained pretty good. If you are on AbbotKinney, definitely stop by this place for some donuts. However, I would not make the trip just to try Blue Star. I will be inOregon in September and I hope to try their donuts there! Read more

This is a great little donut place near Venice Beach. Be warned this is not your typical donut shop but they have a lot of... bespoke custom-made donuts with different flavors. Unfortunately they all seem to have a bit of a citrus taste to them includingthe chocolate donut with almond sprinkles on top. And also the donut I had was not very sweet and had a bit of a bitteraftertaste. If you want a traditional sweet donut I would find another place. Read more
The last time I visited Blue Star was 3.5 years ago. Surprisingly, their price remains the same. When we arrived, there were... only 3 options left and we bought Blueberry Cake and Chocolate Buttermilk. If you haven't been here, they are more like cakesthan donuts. Blueberry cake is just average, but Chocolate Buttermilk is probably the best donut we have tried, period. It hasrich chocolate flavor with crispy surface. Not too sweet, just perfect! Read more
