Overall: 3.8/5 (dine in) Half Dozen Oysters ($20): I didn't eat any since it looked very wet & slimy. My husband said he had... better so you can skip the oysters here. Smoked Lamb Ribs (4 for $19.25): Lamb is really hard to cook. Unfortunately, Charcoaldidn't execute as well as we hoped. The flavors were okay and didn't hid the lamb gamey taste well. Another dish toskip. Grilled Bacon ($8): We got the thick bacon hoping it will be juicier than the thin bacon. We got two burnt pieces ofbacon that were overcooked and hard. Such a waste of money. DineLA Lunch ($35): The real reason why we came here. - CharcoalCrab Benedict: I was craving egg Benedict and this place had a black hollandaise sauce so I had to try it. You don't reallytaste the charcoal so it's mostly for looks. The crab was really fresh so eat it right away and don't let it get cold. - CheddarButtermilk Biscuit: Wow, this is way better than KFC's biscuits! The biscuit is warm, fresh, crispy on the outside, & soft onthe inside. It melts once it hits your mouth and can be eaten alone or with a bit of butter. The pepper honey glaze threw me offa bit but it works & gives you a nice subtle flavor. - Smokey Grilled Chicken Wings: This came with 2 wings. They were dry andkinda tasteless. The oregano, chili, vinegar marinade didn't come through but you do get some of the smokiness. MidnightMargarita ($16): This was beautiful presented. She came out in all black with a black salt rim. The tequila based drink wasreally strong & good but funny enough, it didn't get me buzzed. Smoke & Fire ($16): This is Mescal based. It was also prettygood and just as strong as the midnight margarita. There wasn't a strong kick from the chili though. Kitchen Appreciation(2.5%): Interesting that they add this on but note you can have it removed upon request. But really are you going to remove it &risk looking like a cheapo? Pretty smart move to me. Overall, Charcoal delivers on incorporating charcoal into their fo Read more

I was recently nearby and looking for something good. Strongly recommend to me, I entered and immediately thought I wasnt cool... and trendy enough. Well.... wow, the food at Charcoal is amazing. The seasoned sirloin was amazing and probably the best steakI've had in a long time. Other items were also delicious.... but the ahi tuna appetizer had yogurt (?) on top. It was deliciousbut I had never had it that way. You should try it! Dont miss this place!! Read more

Wow! Wow! Wow! Is all I can really say. Charcoal is an amazing restaurant owned by the amazing chef Josiah Citrin. If you are... not familiar with him, you are missing out! The restaurant serves comfort foods in a family-style way. The ambiance and vibe arevery relaxing and chill. The waitstaff is very quick, efficient, and extremely friendly. Hubby and I went here because we sawit on one of our favorite shows, Insecure. We love steak so we were excited to finally make it here. We had a dinner reservationand when we arrived, we were sat right away. For starters, we had oysters and drinks. For our main, hubby went for the 48ozcertified angus beef porterhouse and I went with prime skirt steak. In addition, we got sides for the table. Our food arrivedhot and ready. Every bite was amazingly delicious. Both hubby and I could not put our forks down. We enjoyed every single bite! After dinner, I had to order dessert and a cappuccino. We went with Yuzu Curd. I have to be honest, I really had no idea what itwas but I ordered it anyways. Haha. I’m glad I did because it was scrumptious! Even hubby got into it! Hubby and I had afantastic experience here at Charcoal in Venice. We were so happy with everything and we look forward to bringing our friends toshare the experience. Thank You Charcoal for such a memorable wondrous food adventure. Until next time.... Read more

Definitely coming back again. The ambiance is great, staff friendly. This is a meat lovers paradise where you can see the dry... aged ribeyes, bison and duck all drying out. The flavors are amazing and burst in your mouth. Read more

Had the wagyu skirt, wild mushrooms and their gem salad. Simple and delicious all of it. They know their fat, salt, and acid... ratios and each dish was delicious because of it. Topped it all off with the yuzu curd and i am already getting a group togetherto go back so i can try their 49oz Porterhouse. Absolutely adding Charcoal to my regular spots. Read more

Having tried a variety of beef cuts in wet / dry aged, I decided to order the 35 day dry aged ribeye from Charcoals special... menu. The server mentioned it was without bone, which was ok by me, so we ordered medium. I’m not sure why but the meat wasthe toughest / rubberiest cut I’ve tasted in years. It tasted more like a NY cut (with stringy tendons) rather than a fatlayered ribeye. Everything else was great - the drinks, veggies, chicken wings.. but at $4.20 an ounce, if this was the“best” Charcoal can offer, I’m sorely disappointed. Read more

Charcoal is a carnivore’s paradise. So much better than typical BBQ joints where the cuts are less desirable and drowned in... sauce. The sauces are served on the side because the dishes stand on their own. We had happy hour with Brian at the bar and hewas fantastic! He was super fun and easy going, offering heavy pours and great cocktails. Happy Hour was a great value: thewings are delicious and so were the burgers. Would definitely recommend! Read more

TL;DR: veggies awesome. fish awesome. steak? not so much Food was good, especially the veggies, but the steak was not it. It... was chewy and have better grade beef at more casual places. Was super hyped to try the lobster w the Yuzu butter but by the timeour waiter got around to taking our orders (nearly 20 mins after we were seated) it had sold out, unfortunately. Would comeback, but nothing to write home over. Veggies: good. Especially the carrots. Like seriously the highlight of the wholemeal Fish: it was very good, was listed as a special, and was supposed to be accompanied by a jalapeño yogurt sauce. As seenin the picture, there was no visible sauce on the fish. When I asked our waiter about the lack of sauce, he said the oils fromthe jalapeño were extracted and applied as the sauce… which didn’t really seem like a yogurt sauce to me. Either way, theactual dish was good, but I wish the dish menu description and actual presentation/delivery were more cohesive . Steak: hardpass Read more
