We really looked forward to this dinner, having made reservations to skirt the expected long wait. But the experience fell... short. Our reservation was honored, which was a good start. Given the menu prices I saw online, I did expect a slightly nicerambiance. Upon seating, our waters were provided in disposable plastic cups and we were notified that several menu items wereunavailable. The beer cheese and pretzels sounded good, but no pretzels were available. So we opted for a small house saladwhich was fairly good and at this point, was surprisingly available. Ended up choosing the meatloaf for myself. It wasactually quite good overall. Wife opted for a grilled cheese with some add ins and it was pretty good. For dessert, we optedfor the honey blueberry crème brûlée. Unfortunately this too was unavailable. Maybe it was an off day for Hyde Away andthey’re struggling through challenges, but this was a miss for us. Based on this one visit, I wouldn’t recommend. Read more

I don't often like to give bad reviews to small businesses, but we really just didn't enjoy this experience. The food was... mediocre at best. My squash & ricotta pasta was overpriced and had no flavor, plus adding on chicken was $10 and it was dry. Theservice was VERY slow, which I understand could be attributed to staffing difficulties, but having worked in the industry I knowthat more attention could have been given to the tables in our area. I had to help myself to napkins and a takeout box. Theserver was very friendly though, so we appreciated that. Read more

We sat after a 30 minute wait, waited another 30 minutes before anyone came to the table to take our drink orders. At the time... we were waiting, we witnessed at least three other tables having serving issues as well. No silverware, no drinks, no visiblewaitstaff. After asking the manager if we could get our order placed, we waited another 10ish minutes before someone showed upto take our drink orders. I insisted on placing the order for everything at that point in time. We were served our food over anhour later. I had to inquire at least two more times with people regarding our drinks and our food. I had to pour my own water. We watched while other customers, that came in way after us, were being served, dined and completed their dinner, with stillnothing brought to the table. The couple next to us said they had to get their own drinks from the bar, and their own saladdressing. Another couple stated they never got their sauces for their tacos. And yet, another table complained to managementabout the long wait time as well. I understand the struggle with waitstaff shortage, but other sections seemed to be servedvery timely. It's a gamble for good service. The food was really good, but the service was awful. Tuna tartar was excellent! Read more

A wonderful little inn that served as my "home base" during a recent nostalgia trip visiting folks in both west and central... Vermont. The restaurant and bar serves up both excellent upscale dinner entrees and more traditional pub fare, and the beerselection was quite good. The place is lively in the evenings, and the staff were personable and helpful. One thing to be awareof: if you stay in the rooms near the road be prepared for early morning car noise. For skiers, cyclists and hikers getting upearly, this probably won't be an issue. Read more

This is by far the best restaurant in the valley. Mashed potatoes and creamy tomato cheddar soup superb. The manager, Liz... clearly cares deeply for her waitstaff and is understanding to circumstances. She provides real and honest customer service. Ourwaitress, Sierra, was extremely attentive to our needs and stayed on top of everything. Very professional place, will definitelybe returning for dinner and a show Read more

Big disappointment. Last night, I took my boyfriend for his birthday. I was hoping for a special if not romantic dinner. We... did like the outside scenery, however we were disappointed from the time we were seated by the bar, a small round high table(there were lots of empty tables outside). Our server was rude. Never checked back and got offended when we asked to take theglasses of water (tasted nasty). He said he couldn’t do that. We waited for our food for over an hour, oh same with fewfamilies. Same excuses such as, backed up, busy and short staffed. Our salad came. Server just walked away but wait…nosilverware and plates! Do we eat with our hands? Our dinner finally came after an hour or so. When it was time for the bill, weasked for a pen. He said no need as gratuities of 20% were already added. What!!. I couldn’t even sign it and just okay it?It turned out he overcharged us but he was defensive and sarcastic. The food was good, at least my bf enjoyed his steak butI’ve never been asked how I want my salmon. This will be our first and last. Read more

Very good food, the food is not the problem, unfortunately the last couple of times we have been in the past few weeks, the... restaurant has had problems due to staffing issues. This isn't their fault, it's a problem that has plagued the Valleyespecially during the COVID years. It is very difficult to find people to work, but that has nothing to do with the eventsleading to this review. On our most recent visit, our server forgot to put the order into the kitchen, or more specifically "theticket was misplaced", which he apologized for, no big deal. Rather than expedite the order, we waited almost two hours for ourfood to be delivered, one of the orders was incorrect. After the meal, we were approached by a very unfriendly staff member(manager, server, owner, not sure). When we explained the problem, she started giving every excuse under the sun, such as theshort staffing, long cook times, busy restaurant she even blamed "the chicken dish". All of these things may be true yes, but aswe were already aware, our ticket had never been put in, which was the problem. Rather than a "hey sorry, our bad" (in fairness,it was your bad, you lost the ticket) which would have been absolutely fine and the end of it, we were addressed sarcastically, frankly by someone who had no idea the situation or what was going on or had been involved with us at all, she just interjectedand probably shouldn't have. I believe that this individual probably just wrote us off as whiny tourists, easy to do this timeof year. We're Waitsfield locals and have been around for a long time, Hyde Away has been one of our favorite places for manyyears. I may rethink this moving forward. There are not very many places to get a truly great meal in this immediate area and Ialways considered Hyde Away one of them, but for the money, I don't expect to be met with sarcasm and disrespect.
