I’ve been eating at Umberto’s of Wantagh for 18 years, I went there a few days ago for a couple of slices of Sicilian pizza.... I brought it home and my wife asked me why I bought one slice cut in two. The slices were so small it looked like an Elliospizza slice cut in two( you’ve all had I’t, you know the size), this Italian restaurant is the most expensive in the area, two slices of Sicilian pizza should fill up two elderly people. I think that they’re cutting a 12 slice pizza into 16 pieces.I know that prices are higher now, but 7 dollars for a slice of pizza cut in two is a bit much. Read more

The other day at 1600 hours my stomach started talking to me and said hey Mike can we get a slice at Umbertos to hold us over!?... I said of course a slice & a ice too! But my stomach said no ice let's not spoil our dinner! Umbertos on Wantagh Ave in theCherry wood shopping center is one of the best pizza companies on long Island! They been slicing and dicing for many years andtoday I wanted scicilian which is probably their best slice but that is up for debate! The guy next to me with a strong Italianaccent ordered 3 scicilian slices. I turned to him & said your scicilian huh! He said yea scicilian! I told him here's a fact Idon't know if you know or not. Scicilian pizza was spawned in New York! He said come again and I said it's a fact you could lookit up hundreds of years ago in Sicily they made pizza but it wasn't called scicilian it was called Sfincione which means sponge! And it didn't have cheese on it either just sauce, breadcrumbs & sautéed onions. But when you fast-forward to the early 1900swhen scicilians came over to New York well that altered the style of the pizza! Because most scicilians worked in bakeries theyhad so much access to cheap mozzarella that it changed scicilian pizza forever. Now topped with sauce and mozzarella that'sreally New York scicilian pizza! Tell me am I lying?! He said wow you really know your pizza history! He said did you travel toItaly? I said no...google!!! FYI the Chicken Rollatini entree is awesome! Read more

Great neighborhood Italian restaurant. Quality pizza, both full pies and individual pies, as well as a full restaurant menu... which is delicious. Been her numerous times, it will not disappoint. Read more

What should have been a happy occasion, celebrating a christening, was marred, by the manager yesterday at your... restaurant...for nearly 2 hrs. our group, ate, drank and enjoyed each other's company. The serving staff were great. Near theend of our stay, when they are already serving cake, the manager told certain members of our party, that we were being tooloud...its a party, there was no screaming, no profanity. Just people enjoying each other's company. Needless to say, not onlywill I not be returning to this establishment. I will advise family and friends to shun this restaurant as well. Read more

Simply terrific. The Sicilian pizza was out of this world. Not to mention the lasagna was like an Italian grandmother was in... the back cooking. The place is huge but separated into different size rooms so you do not feel lost. This place is good for aslice or a party of 300 people. Read more

Came here a few days ago for dinner was craving Italian food so heck why not, wasn’t very busy for dinner around 7pm, overall... food was good enjoyed my salad, soup, chicken picatta , and slice of pizza. To start of course the bread came out but whatsurprise me was garlic knots as well! Nothing outstanding but had a good time enjoyed the food well, only trouble was felt thechicken entrée took a little too long to come out was almost 30 mins between the salad and the entrée to come and me being abig man haha I was hungry! I cannot talk about the shrimp as I am allergic but my friend did finish it so I’m sure it wasgood. But overall enjoyed my time here and will definitely make a come back sometime . Also ordered some slices to go and thecashier threw in an extra one on the house thought that was very nice. Read more

Umberto's Italian Restaurant & Pizza in Wantagh is "The Best of the Best" of all the Umberto's on Long Island! Manager Herbert... and his staff provide excellent service to go along with their meticulously prepared array of Italian dishes. My favorite isCalamari Arabiata ... and wait staff Albero, Wendel & Jackie are the best too! Read more
