UPDATED REVIEW September 2022 The kind owners at Mediterraneo reached out and encouraged us to try their food again, and we?re... so glad we did! Everything we had was delicious and cooked with care. They arranged delivery for us at lunch, which was perfectbecause we work from home. (Call in advance to find out if delivery is available.) The lunch portions were generous and itallowed us to try more things from the menu, including chicken souvlaki, shrimp souvlaki, spanakopita, village salad, and lemonsoup. All were delicious, and the spanakopita was the stand out. Still warm and crispy even after delivery. Last time we werethere was definitely an off night. You can tell the owner(s?) really care about the food they serve and want to know if anythingdoesn?t meet their standards. August 2022 We had an unexpected mediocre experience at Mediterráneo last weekend. Admittedly,the people who chose Souvlaki really enjoyed their meals, and from the other reviews, it really does sound like the way togo. I ordered the salmon and wasn?t allowed to switch or pay to upgrade to a salad. The salmon was either frozen, reheated, orjust cooked for way, way too long. It was dry and tough and really salty. The broccoli tops were really mushy, and everyoneagreed the rice was bland across the board. Good flavour on the potatoes, though. The salmon plate kinda seemed (and looked)like diner food, not the quality I?ve seen in so many other photos. Being an authentic Greek restaurant in the area, we wouldprobably get food here again, but stick to the basic souvlaki options. Read more
We?ve been coming to the Mediterraneo restaurant for years because I think it?s one of the best Greek comfort foods in our... tri-city area. The restaurant is close to the University Avenue East off ramp, from Highway 85, located in the University DownsShopping Centre Plaza. Parking is plentiful and free. Once inside you?re met with authentic Greek music and warm greetingsfrom all the staff. The restaurant is clean and nicely decorated in the Greek culture. My family and I ordered spanakopita ?OMG so delicious, calamari ? perfectly cooked and not rubbery like some places who fry it beyond recognition, the meats in thegyro plate, pork souvlaki, and lamb stew were so tender and well seasoned ? absolutely delicious and the veggie moussaka was outof this world! Our server, Samira, was fantastic and the kitchen staff did an incredible job preparing a very tasty feast formy family! Needless to say, if you ever feel like having Greek food, this is the place to come! We will definitely bereturning. Read more
First time here and we had a Greek coffee, and chicken souvlaki dinner! Great portion, not too much rice (just the right amount)... and potatoes were quite delicious. Everything was quite flavourful including the Greek salad. The chicken was very juicy, nothard and slides off the skewer easily. I would recommend this place if you're looking for a Greek restaurant in Waterloo!Lastly, the service was great and our waitress checked up on us a few times to make our visit pleasant! Read more
Always such a treat to come here! The staff are so kind, food was nice and hot upon pickup and the little smiley face was a... pleasant touch. I really appreciated staff using my name (As indicated on the bag of food I had ordered). I don't see that veryoften and it made the interaction even more positive. As usual, food was DELICIOUS. I had the chicken souvlaki dinner andbaklava. The chicken was tender, potatoes so lemony and delicious, and the rice was very flavourful. Last week my Hubby & I ordered take out dinner from The Mediterraneo, and were not disappointed! We both enjoyed pork souvlaki... dinners, mine with traditional Greek salad and hubby substituted for Caesar. Everything was well seasoned, but the highlight ofthe dish was the lemon flavoured potatoes - which were heavenly! Needless to say we will definitely be back in the near future. Read more
Went here a few weeks ago and thoroughly enjoyed our meal. Service was good but the food was amazing! Chicken souvlaki was... tender, the salad was fresh, the rice flavourful and the potatoes were bomb! The calamari was nice, crispy and fresh. Goodportions for the price. Always a good choice. Tasty food and friendly service. I love all the items in the menu...potatoes are a must. Good portions... too! I just find that some times there is too much oil in the veggies accompanying the dishes, still very tasty! Have not triedtheir dessert because the food is so filling. Highly recommend. Read more
The food is very good at Mediterraneo. Large portions and fresh authentic Greek cuisine. The only problem is it takes about 1... hour from the time you order to the time you get served. This was on a Saturday night so they were busy. They also never camearound to see if we wanted another drink. My Daughter said that it is always cold in the restaurant sitting close to a window.Maybe they need to look at a better window treatment for warmth. We will never go again on a Saturday night.
