Had an incredible dinner tonight. I had Royyala Pulusu (Shrimp), a South Indian coastal dish, Coastal Tiger Shrimp cooked in... caramelized onions; tomato based gravy with spicy green chili paste blended with special Andhra spices & garnished withcilantro. The best Indian food in Des Moines! We have, quite literally, eaten at every Indian restaurant in the Des Moines area and this... one is our favorite! Bawarchi stands out with their incredibly fresh ingredients and rich flavors! The chicken is tender, thevegetables are obviously purchased and prepared that day, and they use whole spices instead of powdered. Even with all that, theportions are large and the prices are reasonable! If you love spicy food like us, Bawarchi will not disappoint! We often foundthe "hot" at other Indian restaurants to still be too mild, but the hot at Bawarchi really is HOT! In addition to the excellentfood, the ambiance is relaxing and modern. I’m a huge foodie! I regularly travel for foods of all cultures. We are so lucky to have such an authentic Indian restaurant... be so local. Bawarchi is a modern mom and pop hole in the wall. The owners are incredibly friendly and personable. They recentlycelebrated their 2 year anniversary. I’ve had many of their dishes; and my personal favorite is their Chicken Korma. Theirchicken is fall off the bone tender. Every bite is a pleasurable experience full of diverse spices and a beautiful array ofcolors. Wow. The aromas hit me and caught myself walking just a bit faster. I knew it was going to be special before I entered the... establishment. The flavors, textures, presentations were bright and exciting. I apologize for the photo. I caught myself with afew spoonfuls of biryani before I remembered to snag a photo. We have a new favorite place for Indian food in the metro! Ordered take out a month ago, then dined in a few days ago - both... times everything was so, so excellent. We love our old favorite too, but the way they prepare the dishes at Bawarchi seems togive them a deeper flavor. The staff was also very friendly and attentive.
