A great place. Love the staff who always make sure you are comfortable. Brunch with Santa has been a tradition we've been going... to since they started it a few years ago. Read more

We hosted an event here and left extremely disappointed. The food was bland and tasteless, especially for the premium charged.... Food was also not refilled timely. The carving station was often left unattended throughout the afternoon. Seats were flimsy andwe had multiple guests fall throughout the event, and management failed to take proper actions in addressing the issue andensuring their customers safety. During the event, the service cut the cake before we were able to take pictures, a failure topay attention to the requests we had made. Overall, a very underwhelming experience given the premium paid. Based on the pooroverall service and treatment we received from management, we will not be returning. Extremely unprofessional. My wife and I visited for Christmas Eve dinner last night. The Essex House was incredibly charming, the service was warm,... efficient and thoughtful. I had a ribeye steak which was cooked to perfection (trust me, I’m a tough critic on steaks). Mywife had the stuffed chicken. We both left incredibly satisfied and happy. Absolutely recommend! I came in from California to visit, and took my 94 year old mom out for lobster tails. Delicious. Great service. The place... wasn't busy at all (a Wednesday - 6pm), which I figure is normal for a pretty high end steak, etc. house. Lobster tails (twin)were awesome. A limited selection of wines by the glass but the two I tried ($11 and $13) were both rather nice for the price. Our waiter, if possible over a leisurely two hour dinner was overly attentive (something that rarely happens anywhere, but thesmall crowd made it possible. We also ordered a porterhouse steak, massive, and plenty of left overs i plan to thoroughlyenjoy. I highly recommend. My only complaint: we wanted to check and get a reservation, and I had to call a few times becausethey don't open until dinner. They don't use Open Table, although they say they used to. But then I've heard from some othergood restaurants, that Open Table can be much like the Better Business Bureau, which is if you don't "join" and pay them more, they often don't post the best reviews. True or not, I've heard that at, from a couple of great restaurants, which like EssexHouse, have been around decades with a great local reputation. Bottom line: take your appetite, and enjoy. Expect Ruths Christype of prices, but the tails, the porterhouse, the french onion soup and definitely the french onion rings are easily worth thetrip and the price. Worth the price! -at Read more

What a gem of a place - the food and ambiance can't be beat. From the moment you step through the doors, you feel transported to... another time and place. The rooms are gorgeous - old school details not found in many other places. Yummy cocktail choices areoffered as well. If you are looking to celebrate a special occasion this is a lovely spot. They also offer a super reasonablypriced prix fixe on Sunday-Thursday up until 6:30pm- this may be our new go to Sunday dinner spot. Read more

This is a really unique restaurant with great food. Adding to the impressive decor of the main building, there is an old style... train car attached to the building. The seating in the train car acts as your own private little room. Perfect for a date or asmall family. The food itself wasn't particularly unique but it was all tasty and prepared skillfully. It felt a little quietfor a Saturday evening. That might be because the food is a bit pricey, or people might have been spread out enough across theirmultiple dining areas. This is definitely a place you need to visit at least once and maybe whenever guests are in town. Itwould also be great for a private event. Read more
