Nestled in a historic district, charming area. We went here for an Anniversary, they served us a little champagne! (Very good)... The servers knew everything about the drinks, were familiar with the food/flavors, and made stellar recommendations as a result.VERY pleased with taste: I don't like mushrooms, they found a way to make them taste amazing!! portions were appropriate - nottoo little, but not too much. Prime location in Old Wethersfield. Upscale restaurant and service. Interesting crowd and atmosphere. Food was above average.... The venue gives off a close knit feeling. Staff was friendly. Finally, I got around to checking out the Charles after hearing outstanding reviews for months. And I must say, it definitely... lived up to the hype. Looking from the outside, I expected the house to look old and very New England like on the inside. I waswrong, it had the perfect modern look and intimate feel for a Friday night dinner. Everything was great, especially the braisedkale greens. I couldn’t believe someone could make Kale taste like my grandmothers greens I had growing up. But the service iswhat stood out the most, our waiter was very attentive helpful throughout our entire dining experience. Such a warm, inviting and historic place. The food is excellent too. There's nothing not to love about The Charles and we'll... define back to taste everything on the menu. My mom picked The Charles to celebrate Mother’s Day after hearing glowing reviews from others, and we were so glad that we... did! The vintage feel of the restaurant was right up my mom’s alley, and it was impressive to see the beautiful condition ofthis antique home. The prix fixe menu for the holiday had a great selection, including the deviled egg appetizer, prime rib, andfilet mignon. The meat was cooked to perfection, and I especially loved the sauce that was paired with the filet! They clearlyhave a very talented chef. Desserts of the carrot cake, affogato, and creme brûlée were all great too. Though we thought thewaiter could’ve been friendlier (not even a Happy Mother’s Day to my mom), we did appreciate that the table was cleanedbetween courses and that each course moved steadily.
