Great Uptown find! We were out for a walk around Uptown after dinner at delicious Nixon Steakhouse and discovered La Monarca.... Bought a few tasty wedding cookies and polvorenes (they go by a different name here maybe cinnamon cookies?) and a slice ofdelectable dark chocolate cake. The cake was light and fluffy which was perfect and not too sweet. Lots and lots of traditionalMexican sweets, (bread) pan, coffees, drinks, and meals to choose. This place was very quaint and cute. They had the most delicious cakes displayed. I took a slice of their Strawberry Shortcake... that didn't taste heavy, but very light and yummy. I also had a slice of their dark chocolate cake that melted of goodness inyour mouth. We went in for some mothers day goodies. You can order for pick up, they even deliver orders nationwide. So we both started this road trip fasting, so you know we were both pretty dang hangry by the time we got here. Yeah I'm sure if... wasn't a bright idea for the both of US to set up blood work on the same day and right before taking off to Oakland but wefinally got it done lol. First thing first, we ordered some pieces of cakes to go! Priorities people!! Oh but wait they let yousample them. We tried a couple of them before we finally decided on three of them the tiramisu, tres leche, and the strawberrycheesecake. The best one I would definitely have to say was the strawberry cheesecake, it didn't taste too much like cheesecakebut it did have plenty of strawberries which made it good. We ordered some food and stayed there to eat. My sister got a salsaverde beef torts and I got the chipotle beef machaca torta. The shredded beef was actually pretty good, I liked the chipotle thebest it had a little kick to it. We would come back to try out different things on their menu. Read more

So sad that I have to leave this review because I LOVE this place but the man working the register this morning, 12/08/22,... turned me away because I had my small dog in my arms. I proceeded to tell him that I would like to order to go but he ignoredme. The establishment should reconsider its staffing.
