We liked this place since it was in the Winwood where we were staying in July. In July this town is all but shut down. This is... one of very few places even open at all. We had the shrimp salad and the dressed tater tots. Both ?good enough?. Patioatmosphere was lovely and staff super friendly. We will be back. Read more
Limited menu gets very limited if things aren't on the menu. Wife and I went in and ordered the chopped caprese salad and we... were both going to have the salmon. The waitress advised us that the salad had been taken off the menu and I asked if there wasanything else that wasn't available, which I was told that everything else was fine. So we changed the salad to the beets andgoats cheese salad. Minutes later our waitress came back to tell us the salmon wasn't available. So we stuck with the beetsand goats cheese salad. Very disappointed. If you call a large bowl of endive and red onion with some goats cheese mixed inwith a small beetroot sliced on top of this heap as a garnish, a bees and goats cheese salad then hire me. I'm not a chef buteven I can do better than that. Read more
Why do I like Tavern 23 so much? It's the people. Toni , a wonderful, experienced Waitress at Tavern 23 , goes the distance to... make sure you have everything you need. Because her husband is the head cook, she gets things right the first time. Noexaggeration. It is that enjoyable to dine with them! They are very special hosts. You'll love your meal. I guarantee it! Eaten here a few times, excellent, small seasonal menu, had the wagyu burger and a local craft beer with sweet potato... fries,delicious, will try the NY strip tomorrow night. Read more
The food here was pretty disappointing, and certainly over-priced. I sat at the bar so cant speak much to service. I had an... utterly mediocre French Onion Soup, which basically defeated the point of this dish. The cheese, while mostly melted was not atall browned, the underlying bread was soggy and the broth was overly salty and sour. What should have been a contrast oftextures and flavors was just one big mush. The caesar salad with grilled chicken was also soggy with dressing with no anchovyto be seen. The grilled chicken would have been standard at a diner - cold and tough, with obligatory grill marks but no favor. Last, I ordered a Manhattan - the drink was decent and the pour was generous, but when I got the bill I saw that the drink costover $20! If you are going to charge over 20 bucks for a cocktail, I think you should give a heads up. Read more
