Great atmosphere. Super reasonable prices. The scotch eggs were still soft inside which I appreciated vs the super over boiled... style. If you want to have an amazing affordable meal head to the First Post. The service is fantastic. Our waiter David was... knowledgeable of the entire menu, gave us a few recommendations and was super kind. Since we We staying in the area and lovedthe food so much, we returned twice after our first visit. The surf and turf was so delicious and the portion was so big, wesplit it at lunch the next day. Everything we tried was to die for. The Cioppino was full of fresh seafood. The tuna and pierogiappetizers were sublime with little additions that heightened the taste and flavor. I can't say enough good things about theFirst Post. You just have to go and experience it for yourself. When we first got there I heard a woman saying she traveled acouple of hours for the meal. One of the best restaurants in York County. Period. If you don't like First Post, then you don't like good food. The atmosphere... is great, but like many places, the service is sometimes "hit-or-miss". The Craft cocktails are almost always excellent. Thefirst post punch is always great. Read more
First time visiting this restaurant. We came with friends who had been there before. Food: my wife and I both got the crab... soup which, by itself, is 5 stars. Very creamy, not thick or pasty like typical cream soup base soups. I got the NY stripsteak, something I rarely do, but took a chance. Ordered it very, very, rare and it came cooked a little more than I wouldhave liked, but still in the neighborhood of rare. It was very good, the spinach and fingerling potatoes were top notch. Mywife got the fish and chips. French fries, not chips, were acceptable but not exceptional. The fish was firm but a bit dry. You can almost see that in the picture. Another in our party got a mushroom ravioli dish which was phenomenal...I tasted it. My friend got the short rib which he said was wonderful but I did not try it. Service: this was lacking. Our server was justfine but I suspect slowed significantly by the kitchen. Our appetizers came staggered...it should not have taken 20 minutes toget soup.(The restaurant was not slammed) She came to the table at one point and apologetically told us the soup would be readysoon. I saw several orders of oysters delivered to other tables but did not see them on the menu anywhere. The two issues thatreduced the rating from 5 to 4 stars was the service speed and the dry fish. We moved York in October. We have tried several area restaurants. We have had a gift card for The First Post, but have never... managed to get over there. Well we finally did and all I can say is Wow! The staff are friendly and polite. The food isexcellent. This quaint place has it all, especially if you like seafood. Many dishes from which to choose, like the scallopswith pumpkin risotto. If seafood isn't your thing, don't worry. The First Post has plenty other choices, like the giant porkchop that I got. My daughter took me here for lunch. It was amazing. We were seated upstairs. I ordered the French onion soup and the steak... sandwhich. My daughter ordered scotch eggs and the crab cakes. Our service was fast, attentive and more then courteous. Ourfood was the perfect temperature, perfect presentation and delicious. Highly recommend. Read more
We come here for special occasions and celebrations. Food and service are always top notch! Food is consistent in quality and... preparation, always delicious. I recommend the hibachi steak or Angel hair shrimp. Crab dip is also excellent, as is the FirstPost Punch. Read more
