I've only ever driven through but the burritos are always delicious. Try the orange hot sauce.

Pulled up at 9 am (when the drive through is supposed to open). Sat at the menu board for 10 minutes to no response. Placed an... online order since they weren?t picking up and inside was still dark, doors locked, chairs up, and open sign not on. The ordergot confirmed and my food is ?being prepared? but yet no one is here, the store is not open, and the pick up time gets pushedback with every passing minute. Idk if the opener just decided not to come in or what, but this is ridiculous. Read more

I used to come here super late night because they were the only thing open at 2 AM back in the day. Food was OK, but nothing... great. I've not lived in Ames for years, but now that I'm back I tried it again and it is WAY better than I remember. Generousportions and the carnitas were juicy. Best fast Mexican I think I've had! Worth a stop! Read more

Fantastic authentic Mexican food! Massive burritos and tacos and a fun salsa bar! It's a shame we couldn't meet Abelardo... himself. Read more

My first experience with Abelardo's is a "can't wait to come back" winner! The picture menu in the drive through was very... helpful and my food looked just like the picture. The tortillas were grilled and strong enough to hold the generous anddelicious chicken fajita, which was spicy enough to get my attention but not overwhelming. Most refried beans are a mereafterthought, but not these. Mui bueno!! Read more

So glad that Abelardo's opened a chain in Ames (located at where the Long John Silver's used to be). I can finally get my fix... of chorizo and egg burrito for breakfast without having to go all the way down to Des Moines. I have to admit though, the WestDes Moines chain still have the best breakfast tacos, but who has the time to drive all the way to WDM on a Saturday morning...Having grown up in Southern California, I can attest to the quality of Abelardo's carne asada fries (it's called "super fries"on the menu). It tastes just like home, except I recommend subbing in the adobada for meat. Given that we're in Iowa,Abelardo's adobada (made from carne/pork) is to die for, and it goes well with anything on their menu (tacos, burritos, superfries/nachos). The other thing that I recommend is their avocado salsa. It's like guacamole, except 10 times better (and spicytoo!). The service is friendly, the drive-thru intercom works, and the decor... well, it's typical Mexican fast food/greasegrill. Beware of the slow wait time after ordering, they cook everything fresh after ordering. Read more
