The food was breakfast we had was fine, but probably the worst service I've ever had. When we entered, the "seat yourself"... sign was up so we seated ourselves. Our waitress walked by our table multiple times and didn't acknowledge that we wereseated in her section. Eventually, a member of our party had to go to the checkout station to get menus since our waitresswasn't interested in our table. As soon as the menus were passed around the waitress showed up and asked us if we were readyto order and seemed upset that we needed more than one minute to look at the menus. When we were finished with our meals,the waitress again seemed to disappear. Our party needed to attend a meeting, so we made our way to the register to see if wecould get our tickets and pay. The staff working at the register was accommodating and went to find our tickets. Just then,the waitress appeared and told us that next time we needed to wait to be seated. When we explained that the sign said "seatyourself" she proceeded to tell us that we were being rude to the other guests that were waiting (there weren't any, apparentlyeveryone else in Ames avoids this place). Best pie around! Family gathered at Perkins and the restaurant was very accommodating.

I had a server that totally neglected our table. Then I wanted the attention of the server waiting on a table on both sides of... us. This server was at the table helping them and I was with disabled people. The one whistled and waved to get his attention. He did not know any better. The server turned our way and said "That's just plain rude, I'm helping this table". When he wasdone with them he stepped over to us. Again he said that was rude! When he came back I said I'm sorry for upsetting you. Hesaid that just rude, I was helping them. Well, when our server came by we asked for 3 desserts. She huffed and said it wasgoing to be a while before she could get it. That's terrible!! Why didn't she tell Andre she needed help or someone else. Wewere in there before all the other tables which left before us. Both of them need guidance on talking to the customer andimproving their service. So would it be wrong to ask not to have these two serve me next time I go in? I thought about writinga letter. Read more

The portion size of beef stroganoff I was served was almost certainly smaller than what it was advertised as. I later double... checked against other online photos, which always displayed more than I had gotten. The stroganoff itself also really lacked asolid presence of mushrooms. However on Mondays they do offer a free slice of pie, which I was mainly there for anyways. Sothat saves the experience somewhat. Make sure to really only go then. Read more
