Food is delicious! Service is fantastic! Friendly, warm-spirited staff; this can make or break the whole experience. The food... tastes better when the staff is pleasant! Although this food is so flavorful and tasty it could probably survive a grumpyemployee. Luckily we didn't run in to that here! Atmosphere is just okay. It feels a little too... Not private. It was abeautiful evening so we took our food outside and ate right in the parking lot! It was a memorable stop for dinner. So glad wechose this spot to eat. Try the stew: a tad spicy, but YUM! We've ordered Satchel's twice in the past couple weeks for birthday parties and were very pleased with the food. My husband... loves brisket, but after a few bad batches from another joint, we don't order it much. This place did not disappoint and willabsolutely be added into our regular party rotation. Breakdown of sides: Cornbread - big slices, very tasty. Beans - I didn'tknow baked beans could taste so good. Vinegar coleslaw - a little sweet, a little tangy, good "light" side. Mac and Cheese -this is not for kids. It's grown up fancy cheese (strong?) so my kids were a little bummed. Potato salad - solid and tasty fordays. BBQ sauce - spicy and tangy. Yes, it's a little expensive compared to pizza, BUT - we fed 5 adults and 4 kids for $120(family meal for 8-9) WITH leftovers. When I accidentally spilled the leftover beans on the floor, there was much loud cursingand I genuinely considered putting them back in the tub. So there's that. Read more
Husband and I got a pulled pork sandwich and brisket sandwich with Mayo coleslaw. Brisket 9.3/10 and was super tender. Pulled... pork: 7.2/10. Only because nothing is ever 10/10 ???? coleslaw could use more flavor, possibly lemon juice but that?s just ourpreference. They have a vinegar coleslaw too but we haven?t tried it yet. Would recommend getting a little bit of all sauces tofigure out what you like most. We enjoyed the house sauce and the sweet one the most, but the vinegar and hot sauce one did adda bit of a different taste when we did try it on the sandwiches. We ordered a catered meal for pick-up: brisket, pulled pork, BBQ sauce, mac and cheese, vinegar coleslaw and buns for 30 people... (not everyone showed). Everything was OUTSTANDING! Our guests raved about the brisket "being the best they ever had". Hugh(the owner) was most accommodating and personally checked that everything went well. Satchel's is in my neighborhood and I amglad they are so convenient. I highly recommend them for catering as well as an individual meal. Fantastic! Read more
I heard about Satchel's from a stranger while we were waiting to pick up food at Palm Palace. We were discussing mac n' cheese... and she said Satchel's down the road has it really good. ...My partner and I were disappointed. The mac tasted like whitecheddar Velveeta (like another review mentioned.) It didn't have the crunchy bread crumbs, sharp cheddar, or baked like Southernmac usually does. It also didn't taste like real cheese. The corn bread was very dry and we tossed it out. I'd recommend addingsome creamed corn to the mix prior to baking to add moisture and that corn flavor. The brisket and pulled pork were the savinggrace here! The sauces were so-so (one was too sweet and another, too tomatoey) but the meat and pork and beans were good. We were the first customers of the day on a Sunday. The staff was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! We weren't real hungry but we were on... vacation so trying to sample things from places we hadn't been. We shared a ½# brisket plate which included 2 sides andcornbread. Not even realizing it..they gave us an extra piece of cornbread because we were sharing the plate. They make the icetea fresh every morning and it wasn't quite ready but as soon as it was one if the young men came and got my cup filled it forme. The food tasted as amazing as it smelled. So happy we chose Satchel's BBQ to cater our wedding. They made everything from start to finish so easy. The person who... delivered our food was so professional & so nice. The set up was beautiful & I have to admit, I loved the flames on the deliveryvan!!!! Every single guest at our wedding had nothing but great things to say about the brisket, pulled chicken, mac-n-cheese,corn bread, & the amazing bbq sauce! We had a wonderful experience using the catering services at Satchels. We ordered food for about 40 people for a Michigan... tailgate. The food was fantastic and a huge hit with all our guests. Satchels was very responsive and knowledgeable in helpingus build the menu. They even accommodated a last-minute early pickup request. They were wonderful every step of the way.
