This was an awesome experience. The Jibarito was top notch. I do not have a comparison as this was the first type of this... sandwich that I've ever eaten. Got a vegan jibarito, which came with rice and beans. The vegan jibarito is basically vegetables, which mostly meant bell... peppers, which I'm not a huge fan of, but I still enjoyed it a lot. Also got a veggie empanada, which similarly was a lot ofbell peppers. Was expecting more of a spicy food, but it really wasn't. First time trying, but probably won't be the last sinceI really liked the plantains. The service was speedy, and prices were very reasonable. Read more
I use to love this place. However today I was extremely disappointed. I waited 25 minutes to get my jibarito & rice. It... wasn?t even crowded when I got there. They had a full staff working. I went to the staff to ask for hot sauce & to let themknow my steak in the sandwich was cold. Instead of being nice, the person wanted .30 cents for extra sauce! seriously! AHHHH-MAZINGGGG! Had lunch here today and it was definitely one of those local places that is a must-go when you're in the... Pilsen area. Heck, when you're in Chicago! Was there for about 1.5 hours and the place never had a "slow" moment. The customerswere constantly coming in and out and delivery services were constantly picking up bags and bags of orders. You know it's thatgood! Arroz con gandules was one of the best I've ever had and the chicken stew was incredible. Sweet plantains to top it offand I was in heaven and wish my stomach had more room. Food was really good!!! Really nice atmosphere and friendly servers. We order "El Jibarito" filled with steak meat and served... with Arroz con Gandules (yellow rice with green pigeon peas) and "Mofongo con Camarones" to be served with Arroz con Gandulesand avocado. I sampled the beef empanada, relleno and steak jibarito! All of the food was incredibly delicious and flavorful! This was my... first time eating a jibarito and I loved every bite! The fried plantains create a nice dense base for the sandwich and thegarlic aioli pairs well with the heaping portion of steak. Read more
