Rice valley is probably one of the finest Chinese food restaurants anywhere in NE. Growing up in Newton and still live here and... after south pacific and China sails closed l started going to Golden temple in Brookline until I walked into Rice valley. Although the food has a Chinese name, the taste has been "improved" for Americans. Lots of beans in Sichuan style chicken, LOL.
Was really expecting more since I had been a couple years ago and remembered it being amazing. Lo mein smelled funky and tasted... like nothing. Ordered General's chicken and a small white rice to go. The flavor of General's chicken was average-ish but had zero spice/heat... and the price was $3-5 (~25%) more than anywhere else in the area. The mai tai is legendary... and strong! Our go-to dish is the vegetable udon noodles with soft tofu, but if you want to he... healthy, add some chili sauce & a bit of soy sauce to the steamed veggies with tofu. The recently added sushi is simple butrefreshing. Lots of fruit options and sometimes they'll make us an extra sushi salad! We love to sit at the bar as a couple,but at a table when we come with the kids. The staff are very friendly. Service is amazingly quick. The restaurant does hugeamounts of take-out. Clearly a very popular spot. It's our regular neighborhood destination for Chinese food... we won't botherwith any other place unless we're headed into Boston. Parking is on street, metered.
